Dear Union Family,
Per our USW Constitution, adopted in August 2022, your delegates debated and approved the business that will guide our Union for the next 3 years. It was a long week and not without heated discussions, but our delegation participated completely.
Our delegates have approved thirty-one resolutions to direct our Union for the next 3 years. Our theme this year was "All in on Solidarity", and included resolutions to strengthen our Collective Bargaining Power, Strategic campaigns, Fighting for fair trade and affordable healthcare. We also voted to recommit the International Unions' support of programs such as Woman of Steel, Rapid Response, Veterans of Steel, Civil and Human Rights, Emergency Response and others. We have also approved housekeeping changes to the Constitution.
The 31st resolution included motions from Locals that the Resolutions Committee felt best to have the International Executive Board research more and give guidance to Locals. One note of particular interest for the 591 is the request to give variances to locals to allow for online meetings where there is a significant restriction for members to attend. I found cause to speak on behalf of the Resolution because of our units in Skagit and Oahu counties.
