Brothers and Sisters,
Our members know the value of the work they do every day to provide the energy that the Pacific Northwest requires. They also know the challenges we face from regulations that seem to change for the worse with every legislative session. Our members are world-class experts at operating the facilities we have contracts with. However, when it comes to legislative proficiency, we lack the expertise to achieve results to protect our members.
In the 1990s, Former International President, Leo Gerard, reached out to a former Department of Ecology Chair and the Sierra Club to form the Blue Green Alliance. Since then, the Alliance has helped our local in Washington State with passing our PSM laws and their recent improvements, along with getting this Economic Study from a budget proviso to a valuable tool in assessing the value of Oil Refining in Washington State.
This study addresses many topics, but for our members, it gives legislators documentation of our jobs' value to Washington State and the geographic region we fuel. It gives real numbers and a realistic idea of the challenges that decarbonization legislative goals face.
Please take time to read it and share it with your legislator,
Solidarity,
Scott Campbell, Local President
The report had the support of the USW National Oil Bargaing Chair, environmental groups, multiple Refinery's Leadership, Tribal engagement and other fence line groups.
