As many of us are painfully aware, talks around Health & Safety were tabled during our 2009 negotiations. However, there was commitment to pursue these negotiations after the negotiation cycle.

USW sat at the table with the American Petroleum Institute (API - an organization that is made up of, and represents, the Oil Industry). As these talks progressed, it became evident that USW would not be allowed to participate on an even basis. The API maintains a significant imbalance in the vote capacity making USW involvement more show than go. (Reuters)

In an effort to highlight what is truly occurring at facilities throughout the US, USW has embarked on a Safety Campaign. The campaign seeks to capture incidents from all represented facilities to capture an accurate representation of the safety of our facilities - not just the big incidents we see on the evening news, but the multitude of near misses that occur in our industry.
