Oil History

This section covers the history of our Local, from its start in 1955 as OCAW Local 1-591, through our 1999 merger with UPIU to form PACE Local 8-591, to our current merger with USWA to become USW Local 12-591.

Our strike pages document the struggles our membership endured to achieve living-wage jobs and benefits.

Our famous members section highlights two of our most famous members from our OCAW days - Karen Silkwood and Tony Mazzocchi.

Our National Oil Bargaining (NOB) section answers the question "Why should I belong to a Union?". You can clearly see the gains we've attained that have not only benefitted our members, but labor as a whole as we helped build the middle class.
